Snowy Mountains hike 2026 We started the 8 day hike on 30-6-26 at Kiandra, heading to Mount Kosciusko with The Adventure Gene. 2 guides, 7 hikers. The scenery was spectacular, and the hiking was fun. Weather conditions varied from a bit rainy, to sunny, to snowy. On day 5 as we were approaching Kosciusko conditions deteriorated (Kosciusko was forecast to have 100kmh winds, and feels like -20°c). Our guides did an amazing job of rescheduling our itinerary, and we were shuttled north to continue our hike in better conditions. On day 6 we continued our hike from Blue Waterholes, hiking that day in rain and snow. On day 7 the sun came out, and we summited Mount Bimberi in the snow, the highlight of the trip. On the last night we camped at Cotter Flat, and the temperature dropped to -3°c overnight. I made the rookie error of leaving my shoes outside, and they froze. The last day hiking out was beautiful and sunny. Overall we hiked about 125km. Our guides Maddie and Tearloch from The Adventure Gene did a fantastic job of keeping us all fed and safe for the whole hike. This trip was one of the best I’ve ever done 😊

As might be expected at the beginning of winter in the alpine area, there was a high likelihood of bad weather producing snow. For our trip, this eventuated so the trip was not as enjoyable as it might have been had there been no rain. That said the level of professionalism and care show by the guides was very high. The food was amazing and very innovative. However, I think once it was certain that the weather was going to be wet and rough, a pivot to another intinerary should have been made earlier. I felt that on the whole the equipment provided was very good although I think at least 3 people had sleeping mats that went flat. In the wet conditions, this was not helpful. Personally I would have liked a base layer that was designed for use in wet and cold conditions and that could have coped better with the condensation produced by walking. On the last day in particular, the conditions meant that any of us could have been susceptible to hypothemia if more walking had been required.

Our recent hike through the Budawangs with The Adventure Gene was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The scenery was absolutely spectacular, and the whole trip was organised professionally and made easy for everyone in the group. The food provided throughout the hike was delicious and very satisfying after long days on the trail. All hiking gear was supplied, and the quality of the equipment kept us warm, dry, and comfortable despite the changing conditions. Gus was a fantastic guide — friendly, knowledgeable, encouraging, and always focused on making sure everyone was enjoying themselves safely. The added convenience of transport to and from the coast made the trip stress-free and great value for money. I would highly recommend this hike to anyone looking for a well-run outdoor adventure with great company, beautiful scenery, and excellent support throughout the experience. Cheers Terry Hunt.

Couldn't ask for a better trip. Well organised and food was delicious. Camping equipment easy to carry and use. Gorgeous guides with vibrant energy and kindness. Spectacular weather! And co hiking/ painting buddies so much fun. Can't wait till my next trip with this company.

Had a great trip Guide was excellent. Worth the money BUT.... might recommend trip to have less distance walking all day so to get into camp earlier to relax and enjoy. Trip seemed very rushed each day.
